Ingredients

• 1 large apple
• 4 tablespoons butter, divided
• 2 tablespoons sugar, divided
• ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
• ½ cup whole milk
• 2 extra large eggs
• ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
• ½ cup all-purpose flour
• ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
• Confectioners’ sugar, for dusting
• Pure maple syrup, for serving

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apple into thin slices (about ? inch thick).
  3. In a 9-inch ovenproof skillet, melt 3 tablespoons butter over medium-high heat. Add the apple, 1 tablespoon sugar, and cinnamon. Cook 5–7 minutes until tender. Spread evenly in the skillet and keep warm over low heat.
  4. Melt the remaining tablespoon of butter. In a medium bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, butter, and vanilla. In a separate bowl, combine flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, and salt. Gradually whisk the dry ingredients into the wet until smooth.
  5. Pour batter over the apples and transfer skillet to the oven.
  6. Bake 12–15 minutes until puffed and golden at the edges.
  7. Dust with confectioners’ sugar and serve with warm maple syrup.
