Mulled Cider

Ingredients

½ gallon fresh apple cider
1 orange
12 whole cloves
4 cinnamon sticks
15 allspice berries
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
7 whole cardamom pods
2 tablespoons brown sugar

Directions

  1. Pour apple cider into a 3-quart saucepan and heat on medium high.
  2. While cider is heating, peel some strips of orange peel and press cloves in orange peel.  
  3. Place orange, orange peel strips, remaining cloves and rest of ingredients in sauce pan with the cider.  Heat cider to a simmer and reduce heat to low.  
  4. Simmer for 20 minutes on low heat.
  5. Use a fine mesh sieve to strain cider.  Add a cinnamon stick if desired.
